Why Drive-through?

Drive-through clinics allow us to safely and efficiently vaccinate and protect many people. Because they help to minimize exposure to communicable diseases, drive-through clinics are an ideal option.

What flu vaccines do you carry?

We carry a preservative/mercury-free flu vaccine. These contain a killed virus. While live virus vaccines that are administered through the nose are available, they are not safe for pregnant women and other vulnerable members of a family. Therefore, we have chosen to not carry the live virus flu vaccine.

What is the best time to get a flu vaccine?

It is recommended that you get the flu vaccine before Flu begins spreading in your community. The Flu season usually lasts from November through April.  October is a good time to get vaccinated. Protection from the influenza vaccine is thought to persist for at least 6 months. After 6 months the protective immunity wanes. Therefore, getting the vaccine too early (August or September) offers less protection toward the end of flu season.

Can I get the flu vaccine if I am pregnant?

Yes, it is recommended that all pregnant women get vaccinated. A baby is unable to receive the flu vaccine before 6 months of age and their protection comes from the mom’s immunity against flu. For additional information, click the March of Dimes link at the bottom of this page.

When can my baby get a flu vaccine?

It is recommended that your child get a flu vaccine every year in the fall, starting when he or she is 6 months old. Some children 6 months through 8 years of age may need 2 doses for the best protection. If you have any questions, speak with your child’s physician.

Is it okay to get the flu vaccine if sick?

Yes. A mild illness does not affect how well the body responds to a vaccine so your child can still be vaccinated if he or she has a low-grade fever, cold, runny nose, cough, or an ear infection (otitis media). My children go to Little Silver Medicine, but I / my spouse have a different primary care physician. Can we all get the flu vaccine at your drive-through clinic?

Absolutely. For your convenience and the safety of your children, we are happy to provide the flu vaccine for your whole family. Please be sure to complete the consent form for each member of the family.
