Your Health & Safety: Why We See You Before Prescribing

Health & Safety Why we see you before subscribing

At Little Silver Pediatrics and Family Medicine, your health and safety (and your child’s) is our absolute top priority. We know that when you’re feeling under the weather, you want relief fast. However, “calling in a script” isn’t always the safest or most effective way to get you back on your feet. For your safety, a complete exam is necessary for accurate diagnosis so that we can prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Here is why we always ask to see you in person before prescribing a new medication:

Getting the Right Diagnosis

Symptoms can be tricky! A sore throat could be a simple virus, or it could be Strep. An earache might be an infection, or just fluid from allergies. By seeing you in person, we can:

  • Perform physical exams and necessary tests (like rapid swabs or vitals).
  • Rule out other underlying causes.
  • The Bottom Line: We want to treat the actual problem, not just the symptoms.
Preventing “Superbugs”

You’ve likely heard of antibiotic resistance. When antibiotics are used unnecessarily (like for a viral cold), bacteria learn how to “outsmart” the medicine.

  • Overusing these drugs leads to superbugs that are much harder to treat in the future.
  • We want to make sure that when you truly need an antibiotic, it actually works!
Protecting Your Microbiome

Your body is home to trillions of “good” bacteria that keep your immune system strong and your digestion smooth.

  • Antibiotics don’t just kill the bad guys; they can wipe out the good guys, too.
  • This imbalance can lead to side effects like upset stomachs, yeast infections, rashes, or more serious complications like C. diff. We only want to risk that balance if it’s medically necessary.
Safety First: Allergies & Interactions

Even common medications can be dangerous under the wrong circumstances. An in-office visit allows us to double-check:

  • Allergies: To prevent life-threatening reactions.
  • Drug Interactions: Some medications don’t play well together. An antibiotic might make your other daily medications less effective or cause dangerous side effects.
  • Education: We want to sit down and make sure you understand exactly how and when to take your medicine.

Our Promise to You While it might seem easier to skip the trip to the office, we refuse to take shortcuts with your safety. We are committed to providing the highest quality of care—because you aren’t just patients, you’re family!
